This course aims to provide some foundational knowledge about certain aspects of elections for astrological magic (specifically, astrological talismans) based in source texts of astrological magic such as Picatrix, De Quindecim Stellis, Three Books on Life, and so forth.

This information is presented in order to further empower consumers of astrological magic/talismans to better understand some of the principles of astrological magical elections so that they can become better equipped to evaluate the charts of astrological talismans. Being able to do so may aid in your discernment process about whether to come into a relationship with a talisman, and may empower you to maximize benefits and minimize harms of talismans you decide to (or decide not to) adopt into your home.

The content of this course was originally created for the membership of the Inner Sanctum and was therefore designed with an intended audience of sympathetic, engaged enthusiasts in the field of astrological magic. It therefore presupposes a certain level of knowledge and familiarity with astrological magic, basic astrological technique, and terminology.

This course material is presented as is. It is self-paced and self-guided, with no homework assignments, grading, or supervision offered. The primary exception is that members of the Inner Sanctum are always welcome to bring their questions and concerns to us!

What this course is not:

This course does not teach the creation of astrological talismans, and it is not intended as a curriculum for learning how to elect astrological talismans. Engaging with this course therefore does not qualify, let alone certify, a person to make talismans or even to comprehensively evaluate talismanic election charts. There is, in fact, no generally recognized standard or certification when it comes to these topics. In fact, at various points in the course we are at pains to point out that there are different approaches to magical elections within the field, and any given practitioner will have to make certain choices about how to interpret a complex tradition; thus, it is not clear what any ‘qualification’ or ‘certification’ would look like in the first place. With all of that said, for those who already have a practice of astrological magic or who are learning how to elect astrological talismans, this course may serve as a helpful supplement to your learning.

This course does not make any claims to be comprehensive or complete. The modules of this course cover specific topics in some detail, but do not cover every possible topic of astrological magical elections.
