For All Those Who Seek Solace

Being a creature in the sublunary realm is not always easy. Fate does not always shine on us with fortune. Sometimes we’re cold to the bone. Sometimes we don’t have enough to eat. Sometimes the clouds bring a refreshing breeze or a light rain, but sometimes they bring a gale or a monsoon that wrecks our shelter. The press of stress and danger can carry the harsh message of adapt—or else.

As the northern summer solstice passed, the impending pileup of retrogrades and planetary indignities were and continue to be more suggestive of gale and storm than breeze and shine: Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn go through retrograde periods, Venus transits Virgo and eventually Scorpio, and Mars through Libra. As Equinox arrives, Sol’s pass through Libra is accompanied by eclipses, setting the tone for the season.

Sometimes we all need to catch our collective breath. Sometimes, some Solace is in order.

We have written before that coming into relationship with the spirits of astromagical talismans carries the potential to deepen our sense of connection, wonder, and safety, and moreover, to bring a sense of existential security: the deep, magical sense that everything will be okay—not because nothing bad will ever happen, but because we have the relationships, the faith, and the connection to the divine that will carry us through the river of time with less sense of disconnection and doom (even amid disconnection and doom).

The talismans in the Solace collection were selected because of their specific qualities and characters in this regard, and in particular their virtues of mood and atmosphere. Perhaps more than any other collection we have released thus far, these are by and large feel good talismans—so much so that our nickname for the Solace collection has been the ‘good vibes’ collection.

Sometimes it’s not enough to intellectually believe that things will be okay. Sometimes you need to feel it. Sometimes, you need Solace.

Take Solace in the Spirit Realm

Solace holds talismans from four elections between January 2022 and March 2023. Each of the talismans in the Solace collection brings comfort and capacity in its own way: each holds us in a different type of embrace.

The Shelter talisman provides the solace of relief, supporting the development of deep down trust that things will be okay. The Will, Wisdom, & Wonders talisman offers the solace of knowing that we are equal to anything that we will face. The Charm & Creativity talisman reciprocates solace, helping us see that when we provide solace to others, we thereby enjoy solace in return. And the Harmony & Bounty talisman generates the solace of having enough and being able to share it harmoniously with others.

Marsilio Ficino, speaking of the act of talismanic creation, says that in the astromagical ceremony, our spirit “is joined together with the very spirit of the world and with the rays of the stars through which the world-spirit acts…” (Three Books on Life, Book III, Ch. XX). So too, when we become joined with the spirit world through our talismanic relationships, we become partners in the celestial project, emanating as well as receiving celestial power.

When we gain Solace through our talismanic relationships, we become better able to provide Solace to others.

Note that all astrological talismans by their time-sensitive nature are extremely limited edition. Only a relatively small number of each specific talisman we release will ever be available. Once they are gone, they are gone.

Idola Stellarum Puts the Stars in your Hands

By putting you in relationship with the powerful spirits who peer into the sublunary realm through these talismans, we hope you will be better equipped to face a strange, shifting, and at times terrifying world in which, too often, injustice reigns and corruption prevails. With institutions under siege (some rightfully so) and social contracts disintegrating at the expense of the most oppressed among us, we have to rely on each other. Thankfully, our interdependent networks of care can include celestial angels, too.

The spirits who guide Idola Stellarum know that if we can begin to equip each other with deep and consequential magic, we can begin to make the types of changes that many of us were told as children were possible, and reach toward the dreams which we knew could come true, but which remain withheld by those who hold structural and institutional power. To that end, we provide extensive information on our talismans, because we believe in making the tradition of astrological magic more accessible and allowing people to step into talismanic relationships equipped with the knowledge they need.

On each product page, we offer photographs and a narrative description of the talisman series before showcasing the electional chart (with a precise time range specifying the beginning and end of the ritual window) and discussing the essential features of the election, further magical factors of the election, and reflections on weaknesses of the election. We include ceremonial details of petitions, altars, suffumigations, and, of course, the talismans themselves.  

Sanctifying Relationships

In building Idola Stellarum, and in thinking about the Solace collection, we aimed to not only put people in relationship with talismanic spirits, but to offer an experience of coming into connection. We, as beings of the sublunary realm, rely on our visceral and tactile senses, and so Idola Stellarum set our intention to usher in an experience of quality that would appeal to the aesthetics of body and spirit alike.

To this end, each Idola Stellarum talisman will include: a foil-stamped black velvet jewelry box for safe keeping and display; a detailed writeup about the nature of the talisman, the circumstances and rituals of its creation, and guidance on how to introduce yourself to the talismanic spirit; and a certificate of authenticity signed by Rain & Pallas. All talismanic jewelry in the Solace collection has been set in high quality metal settings. The bracelets are sterling silver, and the rings are gold-filled; neither come with a chain. The pendants are set either in sterling silver settings and include a matching sterling silver rope chain, or in rose gold-plated sterling silver with a yellow gold-plated rope chain.

We take our role as mages and mediators of the celestial spirits very seriously, and we stand by our work and the relationships we build, tend, and foster. To this end, each Idola Stellarum talisman is backed by a number of guarantees, which we encourage you to look over, as well as transparency about what we are not able to guarantee.
