“With a Serene Mind”

Modern scientific-materialistic culture tends to either devalue or idealize spiritual experiences. On the one hand, spirit contact can be denigrated as illusion or psychosis. On the other hand, it can be exalted at a distance, relegated to the dustbin of history or exoticized as existing only in elusive regions of foreign lands.

Whether devalued or idealized, the implicit cultural message is: spiritual experiences are not for you.

At the same time, our nervous systems and collective energies are under assault. Images proliferate of massacred children amidst temples, hospitals, and universities reduced to rubble in the ongoing genocide of Palestinians, alongside bizarre silences surrounding other genocides across the globe. In the so-called West, costs of living skyrocket while pundits laud the economy’s successes. Hatred and mendacity define the political sphere, and the internet, once hailed as a bastion of intellectual freedom and community, has become overgrown with empty artificial chatter and tyrannical algorithmic controls that choke out creative human attempts at expressing the truth.

Like the mythical Tantalus, condemned to stand beneath a wondrous tree whose fruits were always just outside of reach, the same culture draining us of our vitality obscures the medicines of spirit, connection, and community.

Marsilio Ficino wrote that we should “cultivate our mind by behaving in the best way to the end that with a serene mind we may the more easily acquire the light and truth which we sought by the instinct of nature” (Three Books on Life, Book I, Chapter XXVI, tr. Kaske & Clark).

How do we cultivate this mind of Serenity amidst the accelerating agitation and disregard for spirit?

The Serenity of the Spheres

Part of the culture’s lack of Serenity—and thus part of what drives folks into a frenzy of activity, self-improvement, and fantasied solutions that wind up adding to the chaos rather than putting our lives in order—has to do with how severed we are from the Serenity all around us. It has to do with our connections, our relationships, and our worldview.

C.S. Lewis, in The Discarded Image, draws out a sharp and painful contrast between the modern worldview and an older, inspirited worldview that, in our view, better understood our relationship with the celestial spheres:

“[T]o look out on the night sky with modern eyes is like looking out over a sea that fades away into mist, or looking about one in a trackless forest—trees forever and no horizon. To look up at the towering medieval universe is much more like looking at a great building. The ‘space’ of modern astronomy may arouse terror, or bewilderment or vague reverie; the spheres of old present us with an object in which the mind can rest, overwhelming in its greatness but satisfying in its harmony.”

—C.S. Lewis, The Discarded Image, p. 99

Within the hubbub and hurt of the world, we can so often fall into what James Hillman referred to as a furor agendi, a rage to act. We see something wrong and we want to do something. We feel a tough feeling and we want to fix it. Someone offends us and we react. Our nervous systems get jacked up and we seek to discharge the energy: fight, flight, freeze—freak out.

When we see through this with wisdom, however, we should be able to see that in order to move toward security and Serenity, we first need to take stock of the situation. We need to orient to what is happening, see it for what it is, and respond rather than simply react.

When we have the capacity to stop, look, and contextualize what is happening in relationship, in larger cycles, in the slow unfolding of celestial patterns, as of and in the divine perfection that filters down to us through the great chain of being, we can perhaps step toward Serenity rather than deeper into the suffering that contributes to disconnection, disenchantment, and dis-ease.

Step into a Greater Serenity

Idola Stellarum works to bring human beings into greater relationship with the spheres—not simply for personal gain, but ideally in the service of collective liberation and Serenity.

At Idola Stellarum we disagree with the cultural messaging of modernity. We fervently believe that, in fact, spirit relationships are for you. Yes, you!

The talismans of this collection were chosen for their association with the quiet, calm, and serene aspects of the spheres and of nature. The Saturn in Aquarius Nous, Aeon, Sophia talismans connect us with the timeless silence and calm wisdom of the furthest spheres, which sit in contemplation of divine perfection at the base of the heavenly throne. The Moon in Cancer Health, Youth, & Beauty talismans remind us of the wonder and grace that suffuse creation even here in the sublunary world of generation and corruption. The 22nd Lunar Mansion Good Reputation talismans help us to tap into the centered and sheltered peace of security that comes when we can sink into the silence that emerges from the heart of the world.

Whether or not these specific talismans speak to you, we hope that the writings, resources, and offerings at Idola Stellarum help usher you toward Serenity.

Please follow the links below to visit the individual talisman product pages, or scroll down to see brief previews of each of the talismans.

Note that all astrological talismans by their time-sensitive nature are extremely limited edition. Only a relatively small number of each specific talisman we release will ever be available. Once they are gone, they are gone.

(Note also: weight and dimensions listed in product attributes are for the entire shipped package, not for the talismans themselves individually. The Mercury dimes in some photos are shown for scale; neither the dimes nor any of the candles or other decorative elements displayed are included with purchased talismans. The jewelry box is included, however!)

Saturn in Aquarius – Nous, Aeon, Sophia

Saturn in Aquarius – Nous, Aeon, Sophia Rings

Ensouled during Saturn hour on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 between 11:04am and 11:30am EST.

Of the nature of Saturn in Aquarius, these sapphire talismans were created with the intention of granting their bearers long life and the wisdom and intelligence to live it well.

These pendants were crafted from 10x12mm and 10mm natural Indian sapphire cabochons and set in gold-plated floral band ring settings.

Although talismans of the malefic planets are not inherently or necessarily harmful, Saturn talismans can bring a certain heaviness that not everyone would relish. We would consider it prudent for those with a natally afflicted Saturn (e.g., combust Saturn, Saturn in Aries, Cancer, or Leo) and those prone to depression and melancholia to take extra care with their discernment and divination regarding the adoption of one of these talismans.

Moon in Cancer – Health, Youth, & Beauty

Moon in Cancer – Health, Youth, & Beauty Pendants & Gua Sha Stones

SOLD OUT!

Ensouled during Moon hour on Friday, November 3, 2023 between 10:15pm and 10:52pm EDT.

Of the nature of the Moon in Cancer, these talismans were created with the intent of endowing their bearers with youthful radiance and the healthy flush of beauty.

The Health, Youth, & Beauty talismans come in two varieties: a more traditional sterling silver crown bezel pendant set with 18x25mm lapis lazuli cabochons; and an experimental white quartz gua sha stones.

We recommend that folks considering adopting these talismans take stock of your support network and assess whether you have the bandwidth to absorb Lunar turbulence. Doubly so if you are someone who tends to be “in your head” or disconnected/dissociated from your body on a regular basis. Those with a natally afflicted Moon (e.g., combust or besieged Moon, Moon in Capricorn or Scorpio) would be wise to exercise extra caution and divination in their discernment about whether to adopt one of these talismans.

22nd Lunar Mansion – Good Reputation

22nd Lunar Mansion – Good Reputation Pendants

SOLD OUT!

Ensouled on Thursday, February 16, 2023 between 8:09am and 8:40am EST.

Of the nature of the 22nd Lunar Mansion, these talismans were created with the intent of safeguarding the bearer’s reputation and binding the tongues of anyone who would speak ill of them.

The Good Reputation pendants were crafted from 22x30mm iron pyrite cabochons and set in sterling silver crown bezel pendant settings.

We consider these talismans beginner friendly and general purpose, and do not issue any particular cautions about their use. To be on the safe side, we do recommend that folks with a natally afflicted Moon perform a divination to ensure that any particular Lunar Mansion talisman would be a good fit.

Idola Stellarum Puts the Stars in your Hands

By putting you in relationship with the powerful spirits who peer into the sublunary realm through these talismans, we hope you will be better equipped to face a strange, shifting, and at times terrifying world in which, too often, injustice reigns and corruption prevails. With institutions under siege (some rightfully so) and social contracts disintegrating at the expense of the most oppressed among us, we have to rely on each other. Thankfully, our interdependent networks of care can include celestial angels, too.

The spirits who guide Idola Stellarum know that if we can begin to equip each other with deep and consequential magic, we can begin to make the types of changes that many of us were told as children were possible, and reach toward the dreams which we knew could come true, but which remain withheld by those who hold structural and institutional power. To that end, we provide extensive information on our talismans, because we believe in making the tradition of astrological magic more accessible and allowing people to step into talismanic relationships equipped with the knowledge they need.

On each product page, we offer photographs and a narrative description of the talisman series before showcasing the electional chart (with a precise time range specifying the beginning and end of the ritual window) and discussing the essential features of the election, further magical factors of the election, and reflections on weaknesses of the election. We include ceremonial details of petitions, altars, suffumigations, and, of course, the talismans themselves.

Sanctifying Relationships

In building Idola Stellarum, and in thinking about the Serenity collection, we aimed to not only put people in relationship with talismanic spirits, but to offer an experience of coming into connection. We, as beings of the sublunary realm, rely on our visceral and tactile senses, and so Idola Stellarum set our intention to usher in an experience of quality that would appeal to the aesthetics of body and spirit alike.

To this end, each Idola Stellarum talisman will include: a foil-stamped black velvet jewelry box for safe keeping and display; a detailed writeup about the nature of the talisman, the circumstances and rituals of its creation, and guidance on how to introduce yourself to the talismanic spirit; and a certificate of authenticity signed by Rain & Pallas. All talismanic jewelry in the Serenity collection has been set in high quality metal settings. All pendant settings in the Serenity collection are sterling silver, and each pendant talisman includes a matching sterling silver rope chain in your choice of length. The rings are set in gold-filled fancy bands.

Additionally, many questions related to the talismans you may have are answered in our frequently asked questions. We take our role as mages and mediators of the celestial spirits very seriously, and we stand by our work and the relationships we build, tend, and foster. To this end, each Idola Stellarum talisman is backed by a number of guarantees, which we encourage you to look over, as well as transparency about what we are not able to guarantee.

Note that good relationships have boundaries, and you should know ours: due to the nature of astrological talismans, all sales are final, and no refunds or exchanges will be offered. Please read our returns & exchanges policy for more information.

Whether or not you hope to meet one of our talismans from this collection, we warmly invite you to keep up to date on our mailing list for more opportunities to join Idola Stellarum for events, spaces, and conversations intended to deepen and improve our relationships, talismanic and otherwise.

Membership in the Inner Sanctum is currently the only way to gain premiere early access to (as well as a member discount on) Idola Stellarum talisman collections. After Inner Sanctum early access, collections go out to our mailing list. Only after this are our collections open to the public, and then only if any talismans remain. The Inner Sanctum is currently closed, but opens quarterly.

Thank you for joining us at Idola Stellarum.
