Luminosity

Make no bones about it: these are dark times. It has become something of a trope that in times of uncertainty, people increasingly turn to magic. Within the narrow scope of academia in our cynical and largely materialist culture, this truism usually gets wielded to reductively dismiss the pursuit of spiritual and magical support as mere superstitious desperation. Within a more expansive and generous worldview, however, why wouldn’t we try to light every candle at our disposal to dispel the shadows?

Beyond the practicalities and utilitarian reasons one might seek out magical assistance, we can perhaps get at a more foundational reason for seeking out celestial gifts particularly in troubled times. Within more modern worldviews that reject any notion of order to the cosmos, the ominously rising tides of cruelty can easily tip one into panic, despair, and even nihilism. When viewed as transitory and essentially accidental, the lights of human kindness and reason can seem all too easy to permanently snuff out.

Within more ancient astrological magical worldviews, however, although the wheels of fate may favor some over others at various times, and while the cycles of generation and corruption may sometimes be a little heavy on the corruption, there is always a sense that the cycles eventually shift. Moreover, dating back at least to Plato’s Timaeus, there was a conviction that although the shifting fortunes of the sublunary world may sometimes turn quite foul, the universe itself and the ultimate causes of those fortunes were ultimately good and beautiful.

Reaching for magical protection and support in times of darkness can also be a way of turning toward and attuning with the celestial lights that never dim in the face of human callousness and monstrosity.

We do not, of course, believe that astrological magic is going to save the world or that the ultimate goodness of the universe renders acceptable any of the horrors that are not just happening but worsening. Far from it. But, like the monasteries and libraries that safeguarded ancient magic through the tumult of the medieval world, we can safeguard the light of our hope, our love, our faith, and our magical connections.

By always reaching for what is Luminous we keep in the forefront of our minds the idea that greed, hatred, and delusion can be enlightened through clarity and wisdom. Then, by sharing our light, we help draw others out of the shadows of desperation, despair, and hopelessness.

The Sun in Leo Radiant Beloved talisman invites us to expand generously outward like the Sun, who grants its luminosity to all without hesitation or prejudice, courageously dispelling difficulties and bringing warmth and abundance.

The Moon in Taurus Alertness & Grit talisman serves to keep our battery charged so that we can endure like a lighthouse through the choppy weather of our life and keep our mind focused on what matters to us.

The fixed star Regulus Peace, Glory, & Virtue II talisman helps us keep our cool, solidifying our heart’s resolve and dispersing the more frenetic energies of rage and melancholy that can make our inner light erratically flicker.

Note that all astrological talismans by their time-sensitive nature are extremely limited edition. Only a relatively small number of each specific talisman we release will ever be available. Once they are gone, they are gone.

Idola Stellarum Puts the Stars in your Hands

By putting you in relationship with the powerful spirits who peer into the sublunary realm through these talismans, we hope you will be better equipped to face a strange, shifting, and at times terrifying world in which, too often, injustice reigns and corruption prevails. With institutions under siege (some rightfully so) and social contracts disintegrating at the expense of the most oppressed among us, we have to rely on each other. Thankfully, our interdependent networks of care can include celestial angels, too.

The spirits who guide Idola Stellarum know that if we can begin to equip each other with deep and consequential magic, we can begin to make the types of changes that many of us were told as children were possible, and reach toward the dreams which we knew could come true, but which remain withheld by those who hold structural and institutional power. To that end, we provide extensive information on our talismans, because we believe in making the tradition of astrological magic more accessible and allowing people to step into talismanic relationships equipped with the knowledge they need.

On each product page linked above, we offer photographs and a narrative description of the talisman series before showcasing the electional chart (with a precise time range specifying the beginning and end of the ritual window) and discussing the essential features of the election, further magical factors of the election, and reflections on weaknesses of the election. We include ceremonial details of petitions, altars, suffumigations, and, of course, the talismans themselves.  

Sanctifying Relationships

In building Idola Stellarum, and in thinking about the Luminous collection, we aimed to not only put people in relationship with talismanic spirits, but to offer an experience of coming into connection. We, as beings of the sublunary realm, rely on our visceral and tactile senses, and so Idola Stellarum set our intention to usher in an experience of quality that would appeal to the aesthetics of body and spirit alike.

To this end, each Idola Stellarum talisman will include: a foil-stamped black velvet jewelry box for safe keeping and display; a detailed writeup about the nature of the talisman, the circumstances and rituals of its creation, and guidance on how to introduce yourself to the talismanic spirit; and a certificate of authenticity signed by Rain & Pallas. All talismanic jewelry in the Sonia collection has been set in high quality metal settings. All pendant settings in the Luminous collection are sterling silver (some gold-plated), and each pendant talisman includes a matching sterling silver or gold plated sterling silver rope chain in your choice of length.

We take our role as mages and mediators of the celestial spirits very seriously, and we stand by our work and the relationships we build, tend, and foster. To this end, each Idola Stellarum talisman is backed by a number of guarantees, which we encourage you to look over, as well as transparency about what we are not able to guarantee.
