Prayer in Astrological Magic: Part VI – An Example Prayer from an Idola Stellarum Working
In Part I of this post series, we established the historical evidence for prayer playing an important role in astrological magic. In Part II, we deepened this point by using traditional sources to show that the theurgical, devotional aspects of astromagical ritual play a central operational function, and thus that prayer and invocation may play a critical role in the talismanic ceremony. In Part III, we explored three central astromagical functions of prayer, showing how talismanic magic calls upon the mage’s full participation and devotion to direct and enhance the working.
In Part IV, we took a dive into the ancient Orphic and Homeric Hymns to start to get a feel for the structure of prayers intended for practical use. In Part V, we expanded upon these lessons to distil out some general principles for prayer composition.
In this final members-only post for the Inner Sanctum, we provide an example prayer used in a genuine Idola Stellarum talismanic working to illustrate the compositional principles expounded in this series so far. For founding Inner Sanctum members in the first quarter, this post also serves as a preview of one of the talismans in the Solace collection!
