We have the pleasure of presenting for our colleague and friend Drew Levanti’s groundbreaking electional astrology course Initiate, and it’s open to the public! Live & recorded for registrants.
Our presentation, ‘Relational Astromagic: An Ecological Spirit Model‘ is a first gesture toward offering insight into how we work and play at Idola Stellarum. As ‘medicine for materialism,’ we’re committed to your devotional resourcing and we look forward to offering our thoughts on ‘moving from uncertainty and fragility toward presence and relationship in astrological magic’:
Astrological magic has a perfectionism problem. While technical precision has definite value in any artform, especially one with life-transforming potential, the emphasis on technique over practice is a deterrent to folks wanting to actually relate to celestial spirits.
How do we authentically explore astromagical practice when our cultures are saturated in worldviews that either deny the existence of spirits or warn of the dire consequences of engagement? How do we find our place in the animate cosmos when we have inherited an image of rigid hierarchies that exalt the few and subjugate the many? How do we take seriously both the real risks and beneficial possibilities of spirit relationships while sidestepping the fear, anxiety, and perfectionism that prevent us from entering into practice?
In this talk, Rain and Pallas of Idola Stellarum explore the ideological roots of the division between technique and practice, offering an ecological spirit model that deeply honors the spatial, place-based, and profoundly relational nature of magic and devotion. Relational astromagic offers us much needed medicine for perfectionism and alienation. If we’re willing to approach the art from our own unique perspective and irreplaceable position in history, our magic has the potential to reach beyond personal empowerment toward even loftier aims: deeper cohesion with the spirit world in the service of cultural repair.
